[NETFLIX] ALICE IN BORDERLAND - Review

Image
Casts of Alice in Borderland I basically have zero ideas on what is Alice in Borderland , that is because I haven't been bothered to actually watch any trailers or find out more about it. My subscription on Netflix during these covid times has proven fruitful to those who actually are using my account for free, that being said, I was dead bored during the weekend and proceed to watch Alice in Borderland , and finish the series in 2 days. (8 episodes only, phew).  THE GOOD While I am going to review them only as a semries as I do not read the manga, I would say that the series is intriguing enough to ensure that you will keep clicking next as the episodes unfold. Makes you think while this is something like a double-edged sword, sometimes I hate to be thinking when I watch a series but (trying to be spoiler-free here) this whole series is about games of different cards which represents a different form of challenge (think SAW). The cast  delivers a much convincing perfo...

MOVIE REVIEW: PACIFIC RIM - UPRISING

Image
The initial first Pacific Rim was a masterpiece directed by Guillermo del Toro and also the main soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi was also crazy addictive and suited the whole Robot vs Monsters (Kaiju) vibe. Fast forward 5 years later, Pacific Rim Uprising is supposed to take on the epic-ness of the first Pacific Rim and continue what del Toro did with initial Pacific Rim. THE GOOD More Jaegers. This time we are looking at 3 different kinds of jaegers which Gipsy Avenger being the highlight in the movie. So your eyes are entertained if you are going in for more Jaegers. More action. This movie brings lots of action from the start right to the end, this time you get Jaeger on Jaeger action and also Jaeger on Kaiju action, the fighting sequences are more fluid from the first and it seems like, after 10 years, they now know how to make Jaeger more fluid and fighting this time looks more like ninja jumping around instead of big machine whacking on each other. Terrific CGI. T...

MOVIE REVIEW: BLACK PANTHER

Image
Did not want to write this review so soon as I afraid it will contain spoilers, but Wakanda Forever after watching Black Panther. If you know me personally, I would say that I am a fan of technology, and when Iron-Man first came out, I admitted I had to change my pants a few times when he suits up,  or when he is falling out of a building, and gotten his suit flies to him, totally epic. With Black Panther, Marvel just decided to make me change my pants twice, easily a strong 4 out of 5 stars for this movie THE GOOD Technology. Everything about the new technology of the elusive place of Wakanda will put the whole Iron-Man timeline to shame, the new technology, the Vibranium usage, and also the overall portray of the city has been one of the best Marvel has ever done. They clearly went all out to bring the feeling of technology advancement to life. Characters. The casting was on-point, all the characters from the main character right up to the way they speak and the roles ...

[NETFLIX] ALTERED CARBON - REVIEW

Image
If you subscribe to Netflix, you will realize Altered Carbon is stated as a new release and also in the trending category. DO NOT SKIP THIS SERIES , I repeat do not skip this series! This is a sci-fi series that talks about the future where the body you have is called a sleeve and you can transfer your conscious around, and if you are rich, you never have to die, you can replicate your sleeves for centuries. THE GOOD The production value in this series is absolutely crazy, you can see the production sets and also the attires that the characters use in the movie. Aside from that, the weapons are futuristic as hell and also the houses of the absolutely rich are clearly something that most of the money for production went to. The story was pretty elaborate, it is straightforward, full of action-packed sequence and the fighting sequence is well choreographed. The series takes it times to ensure that most of the important thing is expanded in the movie thus viewers will not feel ...

MOVIE REVIEW: WONDER WOMAN

Image
Wonder Woman was my most anticipated movie from DC, used to be Batman vs Superman but that was so bad I am trying not to remember. This is because Wonder Woman is portrayed by Gal Gadot, while she lacks the physique of the usual comic Wonder Woman, she is so fitting for the role in terms of how comfortable she playing the character, you can see it with her actions and the way she moves fluidly and also the way she speaks.  THE GOOD Gal Gadot is such a good actress and couple with Chris Pine they both make the perfect on-screen couple. The chemistry between them both is off the charts and we can see it trickle through the big screen and also into their tour for Wonder Woman. Aside from there, the storyline has a good pacing and the action takes a better half of the movie. The fighting scene is convincing and it ensures that you will be glued to your seats and will be constantly engaged in the scene as we can feel the strength and power she carries.  THE BAD Some ...

MOVIE REVIEW: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN - DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES

Image
This is the problem of having a franchise running way too long is that you see it peaks and then flat fall directly into nothing. The sad thing is they must have paid lots of money to Johnny Deep to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and try to revive the franchise. I will give this movie 2 out of 5 stars simply because of Johnny Depp and the cast of the Pirates are pretty good, good enough to keep me entertained for a while THE GOOD Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow is the only thing that is good in this movie. While most of the scenes are pretty moderate, Johnny Depp made sure that it is funny and relevant enough to still be a good scene. Other than that, the new casts of who plays Henry Turner and Carina Smyth are pretty good and the chemistry between the two characters are pretty good. The storyline is typical Pirates and it has a little mystery factor on why the dead are running around chasing Jack Sparrow but all in all, it is nothing that you don't know. ...

MOVIE REVIEW: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2

Image
The first Guardians of the Galaxy (GoTG) was good and it was really fun. I never did follow GoTG mainly on comics or read about it, so heading into cinema and watching it was a pretty fun Marvel movie. Upon reading a little more, I realise that they are tied into the fight with Thanos since Gamora and Nebula are the daughters of Thanos. Fast forward, we are now in Vol 2 of GoTG!  The shows go on and it gets even better, probably better than the first movie and I will personally rate this movie a solid 4 out of 5. Below I will mention my own personal reasoning for it: THE GOOD Not many movies live up to their hype but GoTG certainly isn't afraid to prove you wrong. The starting of the movie straight propel you to the ever loving squad doing their daily bounty job and it was fun as f. This couple with the dancing of Groot and also the funny lines from characters certainly puts you back to the ever-comforting feeling of watching GoTG. The cast this time works well togeth...

MOVIE REVIEW: THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS

Image
Before you read this review, you should know there are currently 2 more Fast&Furious movies slated since I personally think it should have ended at the previous F&F 7 but yeah here, I am reviewing the next instalment of the Fast & Furious. I will rate this movie a 3 out of 5 mainly because it has lost the core of what an F&F movie should have been. I would not spend much time reviewing this since this franchise is much more of a fanboy franchise since  F&F Tokyo Drift. THE GOOD This time they have decided to not only involve car racing but also lots of fist fight. If you are always a fan of Jason Statham fist fight, you are in for a treat. A Certain part of the movie felt like Transporter and also then there are some directly taken out from Death Race. Dwayne Johnson had his fair share of fist fight busting out of the jail like you seen in the trailer and it is really really good. The range of car now has gone up to be more lavish and we are now expos...

MOVIE REVIEW: POWER RANGERS

Image
So I have no idea where to start this, all I know is I watched Power Rangers when I was young and they announcing the remake is something that I was partially looking forward to because I am sure the childhood me will be entertained but at the same time, pretty sure it will be downright cringe-fest, and I was right. I find it hard to rate this movie, but overall I would give it a 6 out of 10, I will try to list down why as much as I can THE GOOD The reboot takes lots of the original series and modernises it into something which is not truly bad. The new armor ensure that it something which makes sense as it is alien-coating armor which they should bring it out from within because its much cooler that way than a piece of cloth. Other than that, they did the new Dinozords much well deserve polishing. Fight scenes was good albeit too short, both in Dinozords and in their armored form. THE BAD They tried putting the whole series into a movie and that made it much of a d...

MOVIE REVIEW: LOGAN

Image
Logan was such a good movie to watch, the clearly used the R rating in this case and also the storyline takes a slow and depressing method to the very end. I shall go straight to the good and bad of the movie which I personally feel this movie score an easy 8 out of 10 stars for me.  THE GOOD Brutal and lots of limbs flying in this movie. The reason they rated this movie R is that lots of the fight scene involve people losing their limbs, half of their face and many other very graphic fighting scene. This is in sync with most of the comic about Wolverine where his fight is brutal, fast-paced and full of people losing their limbs. Aside from that, the storyline took a drastic turn to be very slow and character focus which is really good. The action and story played a vital role to ensure that you pay attention to what is to come. Somewhat, you are curious when will there be a next fighting scene and also what will happen in that particular scene. The introduction of X-23 a...

MOVIE REVIEW: LEGO BATMAN

Image
I actually enjoyed watching the first Lego movie, and when they announced the next franchise was Lego Batman, I was looking forward to it. I guess I will not rate this movie because of its personal preferences. You either like it or hate it because most of the jokes are sometimes lame but also sometimes on point. They used quite some references to old Batman movies and aside from that, some of DC other characters too, mainly villains.  THE GOOD If you like the first Lego movie, you will love it. They kept the same style and also added the Batman element into it. You will see how Batman uses his building skills with the Lego pieces to create a functioning vehicle while free falling. Aside from that, the storyline is pretty straightforward and easy to understand. I feel the characters voice acting this time is much better that is mainly because of the much better cast and also their joke this time are pretty dark. Since it is Batman's movie after all.  THE BAD Lik...

MOVIE REVIEW: SPLIT

Image
M. Night Shyamalan strikes again with another of his plot twist movie. Been a long time since I watched a movie lately because I have been extremely busy and most of the time lazy too. This year is definitely a good year to be a movie buff because tons of grade-A movie has already been announced. For Split, I will personally rate it 3 out of 5 and below is the reasons:  THE GOOD James McAvoy at its best, although he did not showcase all the personalities in the movie. The ones that he showcased was on point and gets you directly into the character. Every different style is tailored and played so well by James McAvoy till at times you think he was the perfect fit for this. Some of his personalities also come with a particular slang which it is easy to distinguish whenever he takes on a different role. Aside from that, they have a different set of body language which was played well. The girl characters were annoying but good enough to ensure that you will be well ente...

TECH REVIEW: RAPOO V500

Image
I am lucky to be introduced to mechanical keyboard and slowly learn to appreciate it. It is the Razer Blackwidow and it individually installed it each and every one of the letters and numbers is a single blue LED light and a BLUE switch (not going in-depth on the different switches).  Razer Blackwidow (picture courtesy of digitaltrends) So after serving me for close to 3 years, all the keys start to acting all wonky and will not response to what I type, that is when I decided to ask around, and I was recommended by Taobao Master Lim, for some keyword recommendation, one of my criteria is that must be  CHEAP  and that is when he recommend me the: RAPOO V500. THE FEELS The keys very similar to Cherry MX Brown but they are using their own China made keys which aren't that bad as it felt pretty close to the original Cherry MX Brown with only 25% of the price. I have no complained of keyboard construction as mentioned above and also the end design layo...

MOVIE REVIEW: ROGUE ONE

Image
Star Wars has been around for quite some time and after the current acquisition with Disney, fortunately, we are not seeing Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck being a Jedi but instead, we are furnish with more instalment of Star Wars and also some fillers every now and then but this filler was pretty damn good I must say. I entered watching Rogue One without much expectation just I know that this story was before episode 4, thus I was just refreshing my episode 4 reference but fret not those who did not watch Star Wars can still enjoy this grim and gritty movie.  THE GOOD The casting for Rogue One was perfect. Every single character that was introduced felt like they are there with a specific role and they carried it super well which includes a robot. A good cast means you are attached to it throughout the show and that keep your interest always at it is peak. The storyline was pretty good as a filler and the whole action in the movie was pretty good and always keep us on the e...

QUICK GUIDE TO #DWP

Image
So I just got back home from 2 days of eat, sleep, rave, repeat in which case we actually eat and sleep more than we should. Here are some tips for you survive the upcoming #DWP17 (although it is actually one year from now), so here it goes guys: 1. LOCATION IS EVERYTHING If you are there only to rave, the best location is Holiday Inn Express Jakarta International Expo  or Holiday Inn Jakarta Kemayoran  both locations are near enough only but the first is walkable distance towards the venue which is good after a crazy party till 4 in the morning. Aside from that, the room is pretty sweet and the beds are comfy af couple with 2 pillows (firm and soft) which ensures a good night sleep after a long crazy rave. Other than that, you all should be informed that you can see into the toilet directly from the bed but the good thing is there is a frosted glass blocking your view directly from the shower (might want to consider if you are staying with your girlfriend). Last...

MOVIE REVIEW: FANTASTIC BEAST AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

Image
What was a textbook in Harry Potter has now come into the big screen and it is much better than expected. For me, this movie still has the magical feeling of Harry Potter but it comes with more action in such short period of time. Below I will review what I think was the good and the bad of the movie, as usual, just casual and based on my opinion: THE GOOD Fantastic beasts like what they mention are indeed fantastic. You will be thrilled and exposed to many beasts in the world of magic. The animations and CG that was in the movie was indeed living up to the standards of Harry Potter or even better. You are then introduced to the main character which gives you the weird and introverted vibe, I would have to say that Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) carries it just perfectly fine and very nice to watch on screen. Aside from that, the supporting cast was good and the only muggle in the movie is pretty good nonetheless. You also get to see the initial history before we focus on Hogwarts...

MOVIE REVIEW: DOCTOR STRANGE

Image
This is a super slow review from me because I have been busy but Doctor Strange is currently the best in MCU this year and no doubt it comes with flaws but let me take you through the good and bad of the movie very quickly. Here we go:  THE GOOD The cheesy lines and jokes work so flawlessly in this movie. Taking in consideration Benedict Cumberbatch acting, almost all the cheesy dialogue and jokes seems to blend in pretty well with the movie. The charisma that Benedict Cumberbatch carries, allows him to be Doctor Strange without much of an effort. The CG and also the fight scenes in this movie was good and aside from that, we are now exposed to the many different fighting styles of a sorcerer and the many different artifacts that were featured in the Marvel universe. The visual effects are pretty mind blowing, think of Inception but with a twist. Buildings moving and also time shifting certainly puts you on the edge of the seat, I can only imagine the orgasm I...

MOVIE REVIEW: MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN

Image
This movie was said to be from the book and based on the quick reviews I read on the book, nothing that special came from it. Apparently, the book was as boring as the movie. A ll I can say that the movie is pretty boring. That is why I would rate it a mere 4 out of 10 for this movie and will explain why below. Here we go:  THE GOOD Tim Burton, as usual, the visionary director thus the concept of the movie was fun. Every child has something peculiarly and it is interesting to see their backstory and how they are introduced. The concept of rewinding time is not something new but it was introduced very stylish in this movie. Aside from that, creating at time loop for that very day and just rewinding it before the end of the night is something kinda interesting for me (anything that is available to control TIME somewhat perks my interest, always). Not to forget. Eva Green played her character perfectly, someone strong, responsible and really no-nonsense caretaker. The ac...

MOVIE REVIEW: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

Image
Cowboy town settings and features a bunch of stellar casts and after watching it today, I can safely say I give it a 6.5 out of 10 because of good shooting actions and also some pretty intense moments. Below I will elaborate the rating. So here we go:  THE GOOD The casts basically, they just gel in together well and pretty sure the off-screen chemistry was as good as on-screen. When they first introduced the characters in the movie, most of them feel disjointed but by the end of the movie, we all feel the pain and sacrifices that they made without questions asked. Aside from that, the sets from the movie are well thought after and felt like it was accurately build based on lots of olden days movie referral. What is a cowboy movie without gun action right? Don't worry this movie comes with loads of it. It somewhat feels like I am playing Overwatch using the cowboy character, Mccree which has an ultimate like THIS   and what is lacking just the cigarette while actuall...

MOVIE REVIEW: TRAIN TO BUSAN

Image
Korean blockbuster starring the likes of couple famous actors that was quite widely advertised and manage to rake in RM48M in the first weekend of its opening and on top of that manage to garner lots of social media review as being a different zombie story altogether with a mix of action and some K-drama elements. I was somewhat skeptical on this aspect but then decides to just succumb to the hype and all I can say that I was blown away. I will easily rate it a 7 out of 10 and below I will list what I love about this movie THE GOOD Production value. I have seen a much bigger movie with much bigger production value but nothing as of this well done with such a small budget. I think at one point I underestimated the production value simply because it's not Hollywood and I was so wrong. Although the whole movie focuses mainly on the train but it was such well planned and the different scenes that showed up proved the same too. Other than that, the actors individually played a ve...
