The Raid 2 aka as The Raid 2: Berandal is consider as one of the best action movie in 2014, and let me tell you why I am saying it although there are 6 more months till end of the year. If you have watched The Raid (please watch if you haven't) this just amplifies everything from the story right up to the action. Continuing what happen in the first movie, the same hero Rama (Iko Uwais) take up a role to be a mole in one of the most influential Indonesian gangster family.

Remember the fighting sequence that you loved in Raid 1? Raid 2 comes with tons of that! Prepare for more close quarter combat and lots of brutal fights which makes you go "AWWW SHITTTT THAT GOTTA HURT!". The old villian in Raid 1(Mad Dog) is brought back to live although a different character but still the ever loving fight scene. The story line this time is much more refined and also understandable, not that many loophole comparing to the first story. Think Infernal Affairs with lots and lots of fighting action that will keep you smiling. The introduction of 3 different villians means you get to see some real good fighting with Rama involved.

There are times when you question, why the F is there no one with the gun while the fight has started. It makes things much easier. Many times I asked myself, how strong is Rama cause after getting kick, thrown, stab, cut and many other injuries, he still stands up like nothing has happen. At one point, he looks like he cant stand anymore after the cut to his legs (adrenaline helped maybe?). Besides that, they are less chance for character back story since too many new characters are involve.

Be ready for the action movie of your life. If some of Hollywood fighting scene are choreograph like this, I am pretty sure most of you action fans will be truly happy like me. This is the action movie of the year. Sit back and be entertain with fluid movement and also good storyline. I hope there will up the bar again in Raid 3.

TL;DR: Lots of actions, many killing, good plot, action, action movie of the 2014.

The Short Perspective

Back then in 2001, I was the tallest in my class. Nothing seems to matter, nowadays. See below for basic understanding of my height.

I was THIS tall.
Just joking bru.

I have been short for 10 years currently (more to come) and I can tell you that, the perspective here is different even the air you breathe is different (usually unpleasant). Here are the top 10 things people say to me:

1. Wow, you are short!
2. Nah, don't think you can reach it bro.
3. It's okay, I will help you bro!
4. Please measure your height here before sitting on the ride.
5. She doesn't like short guy
6. If only you are taller, I would have dated you in an instant.
7. Go and take the ladder.
8. Err, you sure you can place it on top?
9. Do you want to alter your jeans?
10. No offense, but then you follow your mum or dad?

Then again sometimes being short has it advantages, for example here are my top 5 things people say to a short guy when we surprise them:

1. Wow, you are fast!
2. You can jump really high man!
3. Eh, why you can run so fast one?!
4. Wah, you can really go through here?!
5. Damn, that is some nice move there

That being said, I have already made my peace with being short. I came to my sense few years back that I can never grow any taller therefore start to work on another department which is now I have branded myself as being funny.

What I have learn while people start to have good impression with their height, short people need to be working extra hard to gain that impression once you start talking approaching or talking to someone, be natural and you will be able to hold that conversation.

That is all what it is about for me. Basically, this is a basic reminder to my short brothers' out there, don't worry bout the height if you want to impress someone. Just be yourself and let the conversation spark light itself because we, shorties, are awesome like that!

MOVIE REVIEW: The Raid Redemption

Writing this review because the second movie, The Raid 2: Berandal is out but not on local theaters unfortunately. If you have not watch the first part, I hope to convince you to watch this Indonesian action pack show. It starts with a group of  S.W.A.T team trying to take down a drug lord by raiding his nest fill with army of killers and thugs. Rama (Iko Uwais) is in the team lead by Lieutenant Wahyu (Pierre Gruno) to enter and capture the drug lord, Tama (Ray Sahetapy). What started off as a normal capture mission went haywire when they were spotted by the tenants and alerted the drug lord. All hell broke loose from there and the fight for survival begins with lots of close quarter combat and shooting.

I will consider this to be one of most fast paced close quarter combat movie that you will ever find. The fighting scene are so well choreograph and so much street style fighting that it makes Hollywood fighting seems like a kid's movie. Most of the fight is based on street style and there are lot of brutality involving guns, knife or any other nearby items. The acting are good enough to have you seated on your chair all throughout the movie. You will get to witness character progression with a good plot twist but it is minimal since most of the character dies in the movie. Music score is fairly epic since done by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park!

The story plot seems to be fairly short and predictable (not the deaths though). With you questioning, how could the HQ not known that they a whole freaking team of SWAT is raiding a drug lord area. Most of them actually report their whereabouts. Meh. Their dialogue are fairly shit to be honest well, not that you are interested on listening but yeah. Basically, there is no backstory on how this drug lord came to power, the most I can dig out is someone put him on that position for having excellent bribery skills towards the higher ups.

Give this movie a chance, if you have never heard of it before because it's not a Hollywood production. It will put your favorite Ip-Man looks like a kid's movie. Everything about this show just feels right, the fighting scene, the gore, the brutality and the feelings. I will recommend you watch this show in full HD with subs

TL;DR: Fight, kill, survive.

The Raid 2 review is coming up shortly. Thank you for reading and feedback is much appreciated!

App Addiction: WHATSAPP

My always addiction, Whatsapp.
In 2005, I was stuck with something people call the Short Message System (SMS) spending hours till I eventually felt asleep texting someone. At times waking up from my sleep and hitting SEND just to reply the previous SMS which I felt asleep typing.

Fast forward a few years later, I got myself a smartphone and eventually became a slave to it by downloading Whatsapp off App Store for iPhone. My days of texting experience just got elevated to a whole new different level. Last time you only can send text or pictures but with Whatsapp, you can do this:

The app is free and still is, which makes downloading it so freaking easy! My life change shortly after i downloaded it. I remember very well when I first downloaded it and went totally crazy about being able to send message/picture/location for free just by using data. The newer Whatsapp enables you to even send voice chat to your friends. Back then data wasn't cheap, but it surely beats having pay RM0.15 per message with a limitation of 160 characters. You could imagine the joy that floods me when I had Whatsapp installed, non-stop messaging for a message whore like me. Just keep typing and typing away till I realize I have been far too attach to this app on my phone.

That being said, it is still one of the best app for me to connect with friends/family/gf/loved ones/strangers and just chatting away easily. They say face to face communication is dead with technology now casting a shadow over it where people are easily connecting and making conversation over a digital platform instead of real life chatting. To me nothing beats real conversation but sometimes you know, we don't have the luxury of sitting down in time thus we get technology to help us.

This is my Whatsapp usage from January 2014 till now:

Change of phone thus stats not updated
I won't be stopping anytime soon, I still love Whatsapp lots and I guess it is much easier to stay in touch with people this way, that being said sometimes it blurs the line of work and also social.

BRB, replying my Whatsapp messages now. See you all...

MOVIE REVIEW: How To Train Your Dragon 2

TOOTHLESS ISSSSSS BACKKKKKKK! This is a whole new reason for you to fall in love with dragons again! The first part teaches you about tolerance, love, and also synergy. The first movie show you if you believe in something and pursue it, good things will come from it. People will learn to not only accept that you are crazy, but also succumb to the fact that something awesome/crazy will comes from all that persistence. At the end of the movie, Hiccup managed to make dragon and vikings come together and work as a community (spoiler!)

Everything about the chemistry of Hiccup and Toothless makes you want to own a freaking dragon! The on-screen chemistry keeps giving you the jab on your bone which makes you go AWWWWW. The main character and the dragon seems to have lots of on screen time which allows you all to understand the bonding that they have and also what makes them so compatible. The types of dragons and also the ALPHA dragon makes you wonder what it is to live in the world where dragon existed. Kinda feels like Skyrim (sorry I got excited). There are many different types of dragons and also some fantastic weapon that wielded by Hiccup which makes the whole experience very refreshing.

With the first movie seems like a good movie for a kid to watch, the second movie seems abit more dark and also sad moments. Death in a fairy tale however much I like them, seems like it is going to give kids nightmare. Besides that, Hiccup's mother character did not have much time telling us how she learn all the skills to unlock a dragon's talent. She disappear for 20 years but then nothing of her is well know except that she is Hiccup's mother and she looks flawless. That is about it. No back story nothing, and the Alpha Dragons doesn't seem to have any explanation how many of them left. I wish there are more with different skill set instead of only ice.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 still fares better than the first movie which now shows much more action compare towards the first movie which is understandable. Basically, the whole movie is really fun for me, lots of laugh and also sadness moments for me. Aside from that, I am pretty sure you will enjoy this if you enjoyed the first movie :). Sit back, grab some popcorn and enjoy the flight!

TL;DR:  Dragons and vikings, lots of actions, some down moments, and be prepare to laugh and cry at the same time!

MOVIE REVIEW: Maleficent

Angelina Jolie, last seen in The Tourist together with Johnny Depp not counting Kung Fu Panda 2 is back in action. This time she plays a sweet fairy till someone human broke her heart and used her to became the king by proving that she is dead - cutting her wings! Maleficent curse the princess to fall into deep sleep on her 16th birthday and not wake up unless she get a true love kiss (it's DISNEY, what are you looking at!)

Like all Disney movies, it comes with a lesson behind it. LOVE is the most powerful thing in the universe. It will definitely get you through things. Angelina Jolie acting as usual is really good, make me feel like the whole character of Maleficent is solely customize for her. There is something which Angelina eyes which makes me feel lost when I stare into it. Elle Fanning played a good supporting actress with her fantastic smile and her carefree moment. There is always something fascinating about magic on screen and the CG in the show is absolutely eye catching. The whole kingdom of where fairy lives looks good with mythical creatures in almost every corner.

The plot is too predictable with the true love kiss being sold as a way to break the curse but it doesn't necessarily have to be a guy (spoiler alert!). Angelina Jolie acting seems to overshadow everything, even the movie. Most of the characters does not seem to have any development, just a short intro to most of them. The starting of the movie seems like all standard fairytale movie by Disney - boy meets girl.

At the end of the day, it is still a freaking Disney movie. I dare say all Disney movie seems to have a happy ending, I for once wish there is a Disney movie with some twisted or sad ending, makes me sleep with ease at least. Happy ending all the time, Disney style.

TL;DR: Girl meets boy, falls in love, falls out of love, happy ending. <3 conquers all.
