[NETFLIX] ALTERED CARBON - REVIEW

Image
If you subscribe to Netflix, you will realize Altered Carbon is stated as a new release and also in the trending category. DO NOT SKIP THIS SERIES , I repeat do not skip this series! This is a sci-fi series that talks about the future where the body you have is called a sleeve and you can transfer your conscious around, and if you are rich, you never have to die, you can replicate your sleeves for centuries. THE GOOD The production value in this series is absolutely crazy, you can see the production sets and also the attires that the characters use in the movie. Aside from that, the weapons are futuristic as hell and also the houses of the absolutely rich are clearly something that most of the money for production went to. The story was pretty elaborate, it is straightforward, full of action-packed sequence and the fighting sequence is well choreographed. The series takes it times to ensure that most of the important thing is expanded in the movie thus viewers will not feel ...

MOVIE REVIEW: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2

Image
The first Guardians of the Galaxy (GoTG) was good and it was really fun. I never did follow GoTG mainly on comics or read about it, so heading into cinema and watching it was a pretty fun Marvel movie. Upon reading a little more, I realise that they are tied into the fight with Thanos since Gamora and Nebula are the daughters of Thanos. Fast forward, we are now in Vol 2 of GoTG!  The shows go on and it gets even better, probably better than the first movie and I will personally rate this movie a solid 4 out of 5. Below I will mention my own personal reasoning for it: THE GOOD Not many movies live up to their hype but GoTG certainly isn't afraid to prove you wrong. The starting of the movie straight propel you to the ever loving squad doing their daily bounty job and it was fun as f. This couple with the dancing of Groot and also the funny lines from characters certainly puts you back to the ever-comforting feeling of watching GoTG. The cast this time works well togeth...

MOVIE REVIEW: POWER RANGERS

Image
So I have no idea where to start this, all I know is I watched Power Rangers when I was young and they announcing the remake is something that I was partially looking forward to because I am sure the childhood me will be entertained but at the same time, pretty sure it will be downright cringe-fest, and I was right. I find it hard to rate this movie, but overall I would give it a 6 out of 10, I will try to list down why as much as I can THE GOOD The reboot takes lots of the original series and modernises it into something which is not truly bad. The new armor ensure that it something which makes sense as it is alien-coating armor which they should bring it out from within because its much cooler that way than a piece of cloth. Other than that, they did the new Dinozords much well deserve polishing. Fight scenes was good albeit too short, both in Dinozords and in their armored form. THE BAD They tried putting the whole series into a movie and that made it much of a d...

MOVIE REVIEW: LOGAN

Image
Logan was such a good movie to watch, the clearly used the R rating in this case and also the storyline takes a slow and depressing method to the very end. I shall go straight to the good and bad of the movie which I personally feel this movie score an easy 8 out of 10 stars for me.  THE GOOD Brutal and lots of limbs flying in this movie. The reason they rated this movie R is that lots of the fight scene involve people losing their limbs, half of their face and many other very graphic fighting scene. This is in sync with most of the comic about Wolverine where his fight is brutal, fast-paced and full of people losing their limbs. Aside from that, the storyline took a drastic turn to be very slow and character focus which is really good. The action and story played a vital role to ensure that you pay attention to what is to come. Somewhat, you are curious when will there be a next fighting scene and also what will happen in that particular scene. The introduction of X-23 a...

MOVIE REVIEW: ROGUE ONE

Image
Star Wars has been around for quite some time and after the current acquisition with Disney, fortunately, we are not seeing Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck being a Jedi but instead, we are furnish with more instalment of Star Wars and also some fillers every now and then but this filler was pretty damn good I must say. I entered watching Rogue One without much expectation just I know that this story was before episode 4, thus I was just refreshing my episode 4 reference but fret not those who did not watch Star Wars can still enjoy this grim and gritty movie.  THE GOOD The casting for Rogue One was perfect. Every single character that was introduced felt like they are there with a specific role and they carried it super well which includes a robot. A good cast means you are attached to it throughout the show and that keep your interest always at it is peak. The storyline was pretty good as a filler and the whole action in the movie was pretty good and always keep us on the e...

MOVIE REVIEW: STAR TREK BEYOND

Image
This continues after the first Star Trek but comes with more action and engaging storyline which will keep you satisfied by the end of the movie. Aside from that, the cast and crew are back together in U.S.S Enterprise and this time they are to bring their voyage to save people in the distant deep dark Nebula. I personally think this movie is much better for casual moviegoer than the casual hardcore Star Trek fan THE GOOD Action and more actions. The whole movie there are things blowing up and much more gadgets that are used in the movie. All the cool tech and also interplanetary traveling makes you in great awe as you see cities built in space with teleporters and also people travelling with such advanced vehicles. The battle on the outer space was intense and also fun to watch. The chemistry between Commander Spock and Doctor Bones creates a bromance and it brings much live to the screen. Aside from that, Captain James Kirk seems to be much more in control comparing ...

MOVIE REVIEW: VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN

Image
Thanks  +ChurpChurp  again for this screening at 1 Utama  +Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) .  Frankenstein has already been told from 1931 (based on Google) and up till now we have no freaking idea how he looks like. Therefore in 2015, someone decided to remake Frankenstein with another rendition  of what he thinks Frankenstein looks like. Teamed up with James McAvoy (Victor Frankenstein) and Daniel Radcliffe  (Igor) they tried to tell a different perspective which is from Igor. I would just give this movie a  2.5 stars out of 5 stars,  and I will tell you why below. THE GOOD The acting was really really good. Both main characters carried their role so well that at times I personally felt that Frankenstein is real. I also like a whole total different plot from the original, this plot was because he wanted to revive his older brother who died back then. The movie tried explaining everything on how they found out the idea of reviving the de...

MOVIE REVIEW: HUNGER GAMES - MOCKINGJAY PART 2

Image
The final chapter of the hunger games is back and it is bad. Like most movies, once you dragged it out into too many parts, it seems harder to impress the audience. I would give this movie an easy 2 out of 5 stars for their lack of almost everything.  THE GOOD I have no idea how to say this, but the good in this movie maybe that most of the important characters have a flashback of their previous Hunger Games and that is the good side. Also most of the actions were tight and also very fast paced. We once again see Jennifer Lawrence reprise her role of being the face and also the fighter for the resistance going up against President Snow. The speech most of the time really seems well written and also the flow from scene to scene does not seems so distorted.  THE BAD  Actions while like I mentioned above, it was fast paced and tight the issue is that in this movie, there are barely any action at all. Aside from the part where they storm the district to find Pr...

MOVIE REVIEW: THE MARTIAN

Image
Thanks  +ChurpChurp  once again for the invite to the #Churpremiere of #TheMartian. Once awhile we are actually given a good movie about space exploration, back then it was the mind-fucking Interstellar, and then there were Prometheus, which I actually shat in my pants more times than I should, and now something much more REAL, the Martian. Mr Matt Damon is back and this time he is not that asshole which he was Interstellar, he was left behind by his crew when they decided to brave the storm to fly back to Earth after their exploration on Mars came to halt because of some weather issue. (no, it's not Indonesia this time). I rate this movie a good 4 out of 5 stars and you will find out why below, might have spoiler, might not, you decide.  THE GOOD  Matt Damon has been the spaceman for quite a number of movies, and this shows that he can play the role solo and also very comfortable living in Mars. Almost close to 80% of the movie was about him and it did n...

MOVIE REVIEW: FANTASTIC FOUR

Image
Fantastic Four by Fox was a massive fail. They should rename it to fantastically fail as the problem was not only the plot but the freaking storyline which made no sense at all. I was sitting in there for 1 hour 40 mins trying to lower my expectation to the minimum and still come out disappointed as fuck (mind you that is one week back). At the very least, in the old Fantastic Four, I can spend my time thinking how the hell Jessica Alba got such great ass, in this NEW Fantastic Four, or reboot or whatever they called it, nothing stands out. I will gladly rate this movie 1 out of 5 stars together with other shit crap I spent my money on.  THE GOOD Who am I even kidding here. Writing this section took me almost close to 2 hours with nothing good coming in mind. I wonder if I was just being picky or this show truly have nothing good to say about. I guess the only good thing was how they potray each of the character with better technologies things looks really more believable...

MOVIE REVIEW: ANT-MAN

Image
One of the Marvel superhero which is often forgotten because let's face it. The name is not helping and all we heard again and again is that the movie has been cancelled either the actor left or the director just simply quit. I can tell you now that after all that drama, Ant-Man can be consider a success, well at least for me. This show deserve a 4 out of 5 stars and I will tell you personally why.  THE GOOD Remember Guardian of the Galaxy? Ant-Man gives out the same vibe in the movie. They took a really fun twist on telling the story of this particular heroes. His ability to talk to ants and at the same time shrink himself whenever he likes takes the movie to a whole new perspective. The humours in the movie was not forceful and we also see a different type of fighting perspective in it. Aside from that, the movie also touches on the history of Ant-Man while making sure that it been told in the easiest way possible. The cameo appearance from another Avengers member ...

MOVIE REVIEW: TERMINATOR GENISYS

Image
Back then when I was young, I watched Terminator 2: Judgement Day  and it still is one of my favourite Terminator up to date. Fast forward 7 years later,  Terminator Genisys is set to ensure that Terminator is not forgotten in the movie industry. Arnold Schwarzenegger (which name I had to copy and paste from the web) once again take on the role of the T-800 the ever old robot which seems to be running forever but this time, the past has changed. If you ask me, comparing between this Terminator and the one before with Christian Bale, Terminator Salvation, I would say Genisys is a much better movie.  THE GOOD The action in the movie is good. This time we get front sit view on how the resistance works and also their fight towards ending the war. Arnold is back on his robot side with the T-800 and I would personally say it is the highlight of the movie. That is because his stiffness acting really plays the robot character well. The main character played by Emilia Cla...

MOVIE REVIEW: JURASSIC WORLD

Image
The park is now open. That is the sentence means a lot of Jurassic Park fans as the movie as in the year 1993. Jurassic World is a fresh take on Jurassic Park 22 years later with cloned dinosaurs and they tried to clone the ultimate dinosaur to be introduced as a new attractions to raise the park visits and also profit. Since my friend feedback that my rating of 5 stars is too tight, I will be giving out 10 stars instead so the rating is not tight. Jurassic World deserve a solid 7 out of 10 stars, and below I will tell you why.  THE GOOD Over the years, technologies became better and it is reflected in Jurassic World's Computer Generated Images (CGI). The dinosaurs now seems to be more convincing than the previous animatronic used dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. Besides that, Chris Pratt has propelled himself up to become one of the A lister in actors with this particular show. Once again, he shows that he is good a playing diverse roles and even better if it involves some so...

MOVIE REVIEW: MAD MAX - FURY ROAD

Image
I will say it now before you read the spoiler, that this is one of the shows that you should watch. When I first saw the trailer, I am pretty sure that it is going to be one of those forgettable action movie with good casts in it but this movie proves me wrong. Many time in the movie, I was desperately biting my nails figuring it out what is going to happen next, so if you are up for some good action with lots and lots of explosion and many WTF moments, this movie is for you. I gave this movie 4 out of 5 stars , read ahead for spoilers: THE GOOD This movie is not your regular run in a mill action movie, it comes with great story line and incredible acting which at times resonates with my inner feelings. The whole freaking show is like a orchestra of actions with so much action and the pacing really keeps you at the edge of your seats all the time. The cast that was put together was also pure bad ass, hands down for Charlize Theron as Furiosa and also Tom Hardy as Max made up ...

MOVIE REVIEW: AVENGERS - AGE OF ULTRON

Image
The second installment of Avengers is actually tad bit disappointing. I guess I expected way more than what was shown in trailers. I personally bought it the movie with IMAX 3D hoping it will be a good movie. You will want to watch it to get to witness some cool superheroes in action but if you coming in for the plot or storyline, expectation please be low.  SPOILERS AHEAD! THE GOOD The whole movie is one cool arena of gadgets and also flashy superheroes power. I personally like that they have showed the combination of power of different superheroes, the likes of Captain America's shield and Thor's hammer creating a super shockwaves was indeed epic. If only they showed what Iron Man and Captain's shield can do. The superheroes suit is all modded and looks really good. The appearance of much awaiting Hulk Buster was also an epic moment. It was worth it watching 3D for that particular fight actually as we seen parts being flown in particularly to fix the a...

MOVIE REVIEW: INSURGENT

Image
The first movie was called Divergent and it was indeed  forgettable . Then came Insurgent, the second episode of the story. Was it good enough to watch in the cinema, or should you rather just take the money and watch Cinderella ? THE GOOD It continues almost instantly from the first part with good amount of flashback to help jog your memories on the first episode. The pacing on the story was good as we come to see they pickup where they left out after the first episode. Tris ( Shailene Woody ) played her role really exceptional in this movie as the main protagonist in this series. I personally felt the action in the movie was not too shabby at all, with lots of guns and occasionally some close quarter moves from Four ( Theo James ). THE BAD Although the pacing was good, I felt as though some of the parts was not related to each other at all. It felt like a filler then again I have not read the book therefore I have no idea if those scenes are actually there...

MOVIE REVIEW: CHAPPIE

Image
Based on IMDB : In the near future, crime is patrolled by a mechanized police force. When one police droid, Chappie, is stolen and given new programming, he becomes the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself, or we can say that 2 genius programmer created  2 types of different robot to help the police force. One is scout which goes by the name Chappie, created by Deon Wilson ( Dev Patel ) and the other Moose which is created by Vincent Moore ( Hugh Jackman ).  THE GOOD Robot with a feeling? This show portrays it nicely and at times I felt like there are ninjas cutting the onions at some scene. I was thought lots bout morale and manners strangely not by the main character but instead but the so-called thugs which was names are not even in the poster. Dev Patel played his character really well, showing how much flexibility and how much have he grown from his previous movie but sadly, his acting was overshadowed by Hugh Jackman's desperat...

MOVIE REVIEW: JUPITER ASCENDING

Image
The Wachowskis is back this time with a bigger much more science fiction kinda world compared to Matrix, but the big question remains is this better than the Matrix? It certainly is not, I can tell you that. This movie brings out a different feel from the usual Wachowskis aside from their absolute perfect graphics, the storyline has it flaws, lots of it. Jupiter Jones ( Mila Kunis ) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine ( Channing Tatum ), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along - her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos. THE GOOD The whole idea of different civilisation in other ...

MOVIE REVIEW: THE HUNGER GAMES - MOCKINGJAY (PART 1)

Image
Jennifer Lawrence plays as Katniss Everdeen, duh! So when Katniss destroys the games, she goes to District 13 after District 12 is destroyed. She meets President Coin who convinces her to be the symbol of rebellion, while trying to save Peeta ( Josh Hutcherson ) from the Capitol. So is the movie any good or are they are merely riding on the Hunger Games hype? THE GOOD The movie continues directly after what happen when Katniss destroys the game. The cast and crew after many movies together, we can feel that they are comfortable with each other as the acting becomes more personal towards the cast. Other than that, we are told the back story about uprising on different district and how it all went down after Katniss awoken the rebellion. Katniss still gets you to believe that she can shoot arrows and it is shown in this particular movie.  THE BAD The show is a melodrama of 2 hours without getting anything back. It feels like a slow paced Korean drama at one point an...

MOVIE REVIEW: INTERSTELLAR

Image
Honestly, I think my review will not do justice for the latest edition of mindfuck by your one and only Christopher Nolan . This is his only show for the year and I am really glad that is because the amount of thoughts and mindfucking in the show makes me feel like I need to sit back and just take time to fill in the gap. Slowly figuring out what happen, if you are fan of Inception , rest assured this movie will keep you accompanied in that department. A short summary by IMDB mention that "A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage".  Cooper  ( Matthew McConaughey )  left behind his 2 kids, Murph ( Jessica Chastain ) and Tom ( Casey Affleck ) under the care taking of his father in law, Donald ( John Lithgow ).Cooper will lead a team of 4 each with their own expertise and together with a military robot named TARS to find another h...
