MOVIE REVIEW: SPLIT

Image
M. Night Shyamalan strikes again with another of his plot twist movie. Been a long time since I watched a movie lately because I have been extremely busy and most of the time lazy too. This year is definitely a good year to be a movie buff because tons of grade-A movie has already been announced. For Split, I will personally rate it 3 out of 5 and below is the reasons:  THE GOOD James McAvoy at its best, although he did not showcase all the personalities in the movie. The ones that he showcased was on point and gets you directly into the character. Every different style is tailored and played so well by James McAvoy till at times you think he was the perfect fit for this. Some of his personalities also come with a particular slang which it is easy to distinguish whenever he takes on a different role. Aside from that, they have a different set of body language which was played well. The girl characters were annoying but good enough to ensure that you will be well ente...

MOVIE REVIEW: TRAIN TO BUSAN

Image
Korean blockbuster starring the likes of couple famous actors that was quite widely advertised and manage to rake in RM48M in the first weekend of its opening and on top of that manage to garner lots of social media review as being a different zombie story altogether with a mix of action and some K-drama elements. I was somewhat skeptical on this aspect but then decides to just succumb to the hype and all I can say that I was blown away. I will easily rate it a 7 out of 10 and below I will list what I love about this movie THE GOOD Production value. I have seen a much bigger movie with much bigger production value but nothing as of this well done with such a small budget. I think at one point I underestimated the production value simply because it's not Hollywood and I was so wrong. Although the whole movie focuses mainly on the train but it was such well planned and the different scenes that showed up proved the same too. Other than that, the actors individually played a ve...

MOVIE REVIEW: JASON BOURNE

Image
It has been 10 years since Jason Bourne disappeared from the agency and now he is back. So, I was always a fan of Jason Bourne especially the earlier Bourne film where he was fighting using a pencil and eventually killed the enemy. That scene still tucked in the back of my head till this very day. So, when they mentioned Jason Bourne is showing again in cinema, the hype is real. So here is my take on the movie, I will try to do it as much spoiler free as possible. THE GOOD Finally, you can actually piece together the storyline this time. This takes you back to almost all the Bourne that you ever watched. Lots about Bourne past will be mentioned in this movie and more importantly the agency and training that we have been waiting for.  THE BAD Well, previous Bourne movie was about how he is a deadly spy and did things for his country, this movie felt like a mess. The action sequence was all over the place, the script seems to be written at the back of a bar and othe...

MOVIE REVIEW: HUNGER GAMES - MOCKINGJAY PART 2

Image
The final chapter of the hunger games is back and it is bad. Like most movies, once you dragged it out into too many parts, it seems harder to impress the audience. I would give this movie an easy 2 out of 5 stars for their lack of almost everything.  THE GOOD I have no idea how to say this, but the good in this movie maybe that most of the important characters have a flashback of their previous Hunger Games and that is the good side. Also most of the actions were tight and also very fast paced. We once again see Jennifer Lawrence reprise her role of being the face and also the fighter for the resistance going up against President Snow. The speech most of the time really seems well written and also the flow from scene to scene does not seems so distorted.  THE BAD  Actions while like I mentioned above, it was fast paced and tight the issue is that in this movie, there are barely any action at all. Aside from the part where they storm the district to find Pr...

MOVIE REVIEW: SPECTRE

Image
The ever loving 007, James Bond is back. Daniel Craig prolly plays his final chapter as James Bond in Spectre. Spectre was suppose to be the reflection, suppose to be the past which he did not have closure on. It was suppose to bring an epic blockbuster finish to Daniel Craig as Bond but everything fall short. Movie was 2 hours and 20 mins long with me falling asleep 45 mins in there and waking up still seeing the plot did not pick up pace. I will be giving this movie 3 out of 5 stars,  I seriously expected much much more.  THE GOOD If you are watching a movie expecting it to be a fashion show and also car galore, then this is the right movie. Lots of well tailored suits and also nice addition to his Aston Martin DB10, the Jaguar C-X75 that made the Aston Martin pale in comparison. Lots of shooting, reckless stunts and also hand-to-hand combat which will keep you on the edge of your seats for MOST of the time. The new Bond girl, is far better than most of the bond ...

MOVIE REVIEW: MAZE RUNNER - THE SCORCH TRIALS

Image
Thanks  +ChurpChurp  for the invite on #Churpremiere of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. The first maze runner had a concept which blew my mind. All guys stuck in a maze which nobody knows how or when it was build, and then comes a girl. (messed up the equation nicely, all the guys panicking and shits, don't worry they got through the maze finally. Amen). So, here I am watching the second maze runner. This time they go with a fancy name "THE SCORCH TRIALS" , well nothing was burning in the trials so no worries but I felt this time it was much more intense and action packed that's why it left my ass scorching on the cinema seat trying to figure out what comes next. This movie gets a 4 out of 5 stars from me and below I will tell you why: THE GOOD Picks up on a quick pace from the last and you will be instantly thrown into more action. The cast are now more comfortable on screen with each other, you can instantly see it on screen. The first movie they were ...

MOVIE REVIEW: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION

Image
Ethan Hunt is back! This time Mission: Impossible is something fun and exciting to watch. Tom Cruise and the gang brought their A-game into play and come out with the most explosive and action-packed Mission: Impossible yet. I will gladly rate this movie a  4 out of 5 stars  and you have to read on to find out why :)  THE GOOD This being the long awaited franchise when it premiered on trailer at big screen and it certainly lived up to its name. Tom Cruise showed me that he has still what it takes to play the ever reckless secret agent and go again great length for his movie (even doing his own stunt as shown on the poster above). The show is for the tech geek, lots and lots of technologies are being showcased here, that being said where you can unlock your car just by placing your palm on your car window is clearly too good to be true still nice touch none the less. The plot has also good pacing and the storyline does not seem like to vague. The team brought good...

MOVIE REVIEW: MAGGIE

Image
Arnold Schwarzenegger  return to the big screen not as the Terminator but as a father who is battling the hard truth that his daughter will be a zombie. The world is hit with an unknown virus and his daughter is affected when she got bitten by one of the zombie when she escaped house to the city. I will give this show a 2 out of 5 stars and will only recommend you to watch if you are interested in melodrama zombie film. I remind you all again this is not World War Z, therefore don't put your hopes so high. Read more to find out what I personally think about this movie.  THE GOOD Suspense is the biggest good thing in this movie. The main characters acting was okay and believable but suspense is everything. That is because you can't wait to see what happen when she turns into a zombie and start biting the hell out of her dad, Arnold. There are some good emotional feeling that Arnold brought into the movie, we somehow feel how hard for him to decide on killing his own...

MOVIE REVIEW: SAN ANDREAS

Image
San Andreas movie did a spectacular effort in picturing an earthquake to hit California. It is those disaster movie like The Day After Tomorrow but since it is now in 2015, the whole CGI just gotten better and much more believable. Once again, Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock played his role as the lead and the father well and convincing enough for the big screen. I will rate this movie a 3 out of 5 stars. Proceed if you want to know more about what I think was good and also bad in this particular disaster movie. THE GOOD For starters, the show has truly pretty good CGI. Throughout the whole movie, lots of CGI are used and it seems pretty damn convincing for me. The explosion, the shakes and also flooding seems like well done and certain part of it they made the extra effort to be do it on the studio. Other than that, Dwayne Johnson once again show of his acting skills to the audience with his role as captain and father. His daughter, played by Alexandra Daddario and wife by Carla ...

MOVIE REVIEW: FAST & FURIOUS 7

Image
I grew up watching Fast & Furious, the movie has it's high and low but with Fast & Furious 7,it is a must watch as it gives you the proper ending and closure. You will feel like it was a very heavy hearted goodbye to your own family member. All the actions and also the feelings which you will not want to miss, so get your ass off that chair and watch it now. Spoilers below:  THE GOOD The show is now more action packed as ever. That being said we have some of the stuns which keep your heart pumping and also make your knees weak as they traverse to continents to retrieve something for the US government. There are so much more hand-to-hand combat, while I love gun action, there is a well balance of guns and fist-to-fist combat. Tony Jaa definitely step up the action game, and Paul Walker had a good fist fight in the movie too. Cars flying is a norm and in this instalment pretty sure they crash more cars than they did in the previous (GTR & Impreza, I rememb...

MOVIE REVIEW: INSURGENT

Image
The first movie was called Divergent and it was indeed  forgettable . Then came Insurgent, the second episode of the story. Was it good enough to watch in the cinema, or should you rather just take the money and watch Cinderella ? THE GOOD It continues almost instantly from the first part with good amount of flashback to help jog your memories on the first episode. The pacing on the story was good as we come to see they pickup where they left out after the first episode. Tris ( Shailene Woody ) played her role really exceptional in this movie as the main protagonist in this series. I personally felt the action in the movie was not too shabby at all, with lots of guns and occasionally some close quarter moves from Four ( Theo James ). THE BAD Although the pacing was good, I felt as though some of the parts was not related to each other at all. It felt like a filler then again I have not read the book therefore I have no idea if those scenes are actually there...

MOVIE REVIEW: CHAPPIE

Image
Based on IMDB : In the near future, crime is patrolled by a mechanized police force. When one police droid, Chappie, is stolen and given new programming, he becomes the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself, or we can say that 2 genius programmer created  2 types of different robot to help the police force. One is scout which goes by the name Chappie, created by Deon Wilson ( Dev Patel ) and the other Moose which is created by Vincent Moore ( Hugh Jackman ).  THE GOOD Robot with a feeling? This show portrays it nicely and at times I felt like there are ninjas cutting the onions at some scene. I was thought lots bout morale and manners strangely not by the main character but instead but the so-called thugs which was names are not even in the poster. Dev Patel played his character really well, showing how much flexibility and how much have he grown from his previous movie but sadly, his acting was overshadowed by Hugh Jackman's desperat...

MOVIE REVIEW: THE IMITATION GAME

Image
I never really like a movie which is solely based on a person's biography, that is because I always think of it as less interesting comparing to other movie. The Imitation Game proves me wrong with their excellent actors and also superb storyline.  During World War II, mathematician Alan Turing ( Benedict Cumberbatch ) tries to crack the enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians. THE GOOD Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing really takes you on an emotional roller coaster. He is assisted by Keira Knightley, who plays Joan Clarke, the love of his life. Both of them showed so much on screen chemistry and such convincing acting in their roles that we forgotten that this is actually a movie. Benedict Cumberbatch nail his role as a cryptography genius and also a weirdo almost so convincingly that I somewhat think that Alan Turing was him or his ancestors.  THE BAD The ending was badly rushed. That is because I guess most of the movie focuses...

MOVIE REVIEW: GONE GIRL

Image
As much as the show titled like someone lost their kid, it is not the case. Let me assure you that Gone Girl can be in the same category as MINDFUCKING because what you see is not always what you get.  Imdb comes out with the movie summary: With his wife's, Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) sees the spotlight turned on him when it's suspected that he may not be innocent. Together with his twin, Margo Dunne (Carrie Coon) he tries to uncover the true secret that his wife been hiding all these time.  THE GOOD If there is someone to admire in this movie, Rosamund Pike will be the one to watch. She really carries the roll of Amy Dunne crazily good and with that you will embark on a journey on crazy together with her. It scares the fuck out of you knowing how crazy someone can be. The story was beautifully written and the acting was so convincing that you will wonder what som...

MOVIE REVIEW: JOHN WICK

Image
You will understand why the tagline for this show is Don't Set Him Off when you watch this movie. John Wick ( Keanu Reeves ) takes the leading role in the show. He is an ex-hitman who is now on the mad run to hunt to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. Which is his, dog, yeah you read that right, his dog. The dog was the final token for him from his dead wife and some gangsters just decided to kill it. Stay classy stupidity. THE GOOD Keanu Reeves is back. The role that he hold doesn't not have much to talk but lots of action with guns. I have no idea you could actually kill someone with the gun so many ways. There is also a specific atmosphere in the show that makes it so intriguing. The characters in the movie for example the CLEANER and the owner of Continental both plays a cool mysterious character. There are places that makes you think if it really exist in the world. The show is actually quite funny at times with humours does not seem so forcef...

MOVIE REVIEW: THE EQUALIZER

Image
Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) plays the Equalizer from the classic TV series. He was meant to lead a quiet new life till he meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz) in his everyday diner. Her employers are an ultra-violent Russian gangsters which torture her when she refuses to work. McCall took matters to his own hands and eventually everything became interesting for the Russian gangsters. THE GOOD  If you are in for a good Hollywood fighting movie, I will assure you that it is much to see in this movie. Throughout the whole movie, the use of guns from McCall is very subtle and almost non existence. As usual, the character McCall was brought to life by none other than Denzel Washington with his ever excellent performance of emotions when he needs to. Chloë Grace Moretz also did lots of justice with her character as Teri, the way she portrays it is totally different on what she used to play in Kickass.  Most of the time you are just sitting on the edge waiti...

MOVIE REVIEW: A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES

Image
Every now and then you watch a detective movie hoping it to be something Sherlock Holmes (TV Series) but time and time again you will be disappointed. A walk among the tombstones tells a story of a retired police, Matt Scudder (Liam Neeson) who is now an unlicensed private eye who got roped into a mystery murder of drug traffickers wife's. Upon initial investigation, it seems like they kidnappers only kidnaps drug traffickers wife's or kids. THE GOOD The shows has the most creepy atmosphere ever when they reveal the kidnappers with their methods and it invoke the feeling of fear and helplessness for the victims. It also shows that how twisted a person's mind can be and what they are capable of. Come to think of it, sometimes I guess it is not about the money at all. As usual, Liam Neeson alone carries the show perfectly with his cocky method and also his drinking problems. THE BAD The pacing of the movie is super inconsistent. At times you get a super fa...
