MOVIE REVIEW: The Raid Redemption

Writing this review because the second movie, The Raid 2: Berandal is out but not on local theaters unfortunately. If you have not watch the first part, I hope to convince you to watch this Indonesian action pack show. It starts with a group of  S.W.A.T team trying to take down a drug lord by raiding his nest fill with army of killers and thugs. Rama (Iko Uwais) is in the team lead by Lieutenant Wahyu (Pierre Gruno) to enter and capture the drug lord, Tama (Ray Sahetapy). What started off as a normal capture mission went haywire when they were spotted by the tenants and alerted the drug lord. All hell broke loose from there and the fight for survival begins with lots of close quarter combat and shooting.

THE GOOD

I will consider this to be one of most fast paced close quarter combat movie that you will ever find. The fighting scene are so well choreograph and so much street style fighting that it makes Hollywood fighting seems like a kid's movie. Most of the fight is based on street style and there are lot of brutality involving guns, knife or any other nearby items. The acting are good enough to have you seated on your chair all throughout the movie. You will get to witness character progression with a good plot twist but it is minimal since most of the character dies in the movie. Music score is fairly epic since done by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park!

THE BAD

The story plot seems to be fairly short and predictable (not the deaths though). With you questioning, how could the HQ not known that they a whole freaking team of SWAT is raiding a drug lord area. Most of them actually report their whereabouts. Meh. Their dialogue are fairly shit to be honest well, not that you are interested on listening but yeah. Basically, there is no backstory on how this drug lord came to power, the most I can dig out is someone put him on that position for having excellent bribery skills towards the higher ups.

CONCLUSION

Give this movie a chance, if you have never heard of it before because it's not a Hollywood production. It will put your favorite Ip-Man looks like a kid's movie. Everything about this show just feels right, the fighting scene, the gore, the brutality and the feelings. I will recommend you watch this show in full HD with subs

TL;DR: Fight, kill, survive.

The Raid 2 review is coming up shortly. Thank you for reading and feedback is much appreciated!
